Black August Day of Community Service

August 16th. A Neighborhood clean-up and picnic, in Anacostia.

Service is an integral part of Black liberation and has always been a pillar of liberation movements led by Black and indigenous people. Our connection to the earth is deepened when we care for it. Our connection to God is deepened when we practice loving care over Their creation. We deserve to live in clean communities. Our wellness depends on it. And whole systems are designed to keep us living in unclean, unsafe, underserved, and under-resourced communities. It is an act of resistance for us to take the environmental wellness of our communities back into our own hands. With care and intention.

We are gathering as a tribe on August 16th to clean up our neighborhoods in Anacostia, and to map out sites of future service projects.

Bring your own mask. Gloves, trash collectors, receptacles provided. Vegan lunches by Black nutritionists and chefs will be available for purchase. We also encourage you to bring offerings (fruit, bottled juices, fresh produce, pre-packaged dried fruits and nuts/seeds are all welcome).

Please fill out the form below to participate, and encourage other brothers and sisters you know to register as well.
